Mining Technology Engineering "3 + 3 joint” Program between the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg (TU BAF)

Program History:

The Department of Mining Technology (DMT) was founded in 1971 and first offered the Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering in 1975. Currently, the department offers a comprehensive range of academic programs, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. Our curriculum is designed to instill the critical expertise and skills required to successfully lead and compete in the modern global mining landscape. MUST signed a strategic MOU with the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg (TU BAF). The MOU stems from MUST’s commitment to academic excellence and empowering graduates to compete on a global stage.

Mission Statement:

The MOU allows Mongolian students who are pursuing their bachelor’s degree in mining technology at MUST to pursue master’s degree Geoengineering and Mining at Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg (TU BAF). Our graduates will combine MUST’s proven academic depth with TU BAF's modern German engineering proficiency to be competitive.
  1. Prerequisites for admission and recognition of study achievements at TU BAF obtained at MUST
    1. Successful completion of 6 semesters of the course "Engineering of Mining Technology" at MUST.
    2. If the subjects envisaged in the first 6 semesters of the study plan of the MUST are completed, these courses will be recognized by the Faculty of Geosciences, Geotechnics and Mining of TU BAF.
    3. Sufficient German language skills must be demonstrated for admission to the TU BAF. This can be done by the German Language Examination for Higher Education (DSH) with at least Level 2 or by equivalent language tests. Applicants can prepare at MUST or attend preparatory language courses at the TU BAF. Information on the courses offered can be found on the website of the International University Center of the BAF (IUZ) (www.tu-freiberg.de/iuz/sprachen).
2. Information about obtaining a visa and entering the Federal Republic of Germany
Information about studying at the school/college in Germany and financial support during studies can be found at the following address. https://ulan-bator.diplo.de

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The educational objectives of the Mining Exploitation Technology program are defined as follows.
PEO 1: To conduct theoretical research in specific fields of engineering, work effectively in innovation and production, in addition to keep up with modern mining development technologies, collaborate closely with production, and develop practical skills through laboratory and software-based hands-on training.
PEO 2: To cultivate the attitude of being a responsible mining practitioner and an active member of civil society.
PEO 3: To develop the habit of making well-informed decisions from a scientific perspective to address socio-economic and industrial challenges.
PEO 4: To ensure that the students develop professional and communication skills needed in the workplace in line with market demands.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

Since 2014, MUST has introduced the theoretical and methodological foundations of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), and in 2015, for the first time in Mongolia, joined the International CDIO Initiative for engineering education. The university develops and implements curricula and plans for bachelor's students to acquire not only theoretical knowledge but also the ability to think and improve their interpersonal as well as professional communication in addition to use modern software, and understand the processes.
